GOVERNANCE OVERVIEW

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors serves as the governing body of the Council. There are fifteen members on the Board, including the officers, committee chairs and members-at-large. The Executive Committee of the Board consists of the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Governance & Nominating Chair. The Nominating Committee of the Board supports the Board by nominating new board members to fill expiring or unexpired terms.

BYLAWS

The Worksite Wellness Council of MA is governed by bylaws and the board is the governing body with the ultimate fiduciary responsibility and authority for the association. WWCMA is apolitical and does not attempt to influence legislation nor participate in or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office.

COMMITTEES

The WWCMA is a volunteer-led organization that is divided up by seven working committees:

Finance Committee

Responsible for the financial well being of the council, including developing, reviewing and revising (when necessary), the fiscal policies and procedures, executing financial transactions, maintaining banking relationships, providing regular reporting of financial position to the board and the annual budget.

Membership Committee

Responsible for making recommendations to the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors on the annual membership dues and for identifying ways to recruit new members. The Membership Committee will work closely with the Marketing and Communications committee to actively promote membership in the organization. The committee will also be involved in activities related to providing career guidance, mentoring students and those seeking to enter the field of work-site wellness and posting jobs on website of WWCMA.

Awards and Recognition Committee

It is important to celebrate successes as we work together to actively promote health and wellness within Massachusetts workplaces. The Awards & Recognition committee runs our annual WorkWell Massachusetts Awards program, which recognizes Massachusetts employers for their exemplary work in worksite health promotion. The program showcases employers of all sizes – large and small – on their employee wellness program’s performance. The committee is responsible for the application process and overseeing the evaluation process with the support of qualified peer reviewers.

Education and Events

Responsible for establishing standards for meeting presentations that support the purpose of the Council, identifying qualified speakers, and handling all meeting logistics.

Annual Conference Committee

Responsible for planning and overseeing the WWCMA’s annual conference. The committee will provide leadership and collaborate with other committees in areas such as: developing the theme, timeline, and budget for the event; securing a facility and working with food service for refreshments; facilitating the registration process; securing sponsors; developing a marketing strategy and PR materials; planning the logistics of awards presentations; preparing a Call for Proposals for educational sessions, selecting sessions and speakers to presented; and identifying and securing keynote presentations and presenters.

Marketing and Communications

Responsible for communicating and promoting the Council's mission, events, programs and educational resources. The Marketing and Communications Committee is in need of volunteers that can provide content to help support the mission of the Council. Content includes blog writing, article writing, managing intellectual property projects such as polls and short surveys, or sourcing or interviewing Massachusetts based worksite wellness program stories for the Council to feature.

Student Outreach Committee

responsible for ensuring a strong pipeline of future members, employers, volunteers and leaders by providing meaningful opportunities, experiences and programming targeted to students and recent graduates.
