Making Workplace Wellness a Priority

August is National Wellness Month, a much-needed reminder that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish – it’s essential. This annual observance encourages us to focus on self-care, stress management, and building healthy habits that support long-term well-being and health.
An employee wellness program is a company-organized initiative aimed at improving the health and well-being of its employees. Many studies show that employee wellness programs play a powerful role in driving employee engagement, morale, and retention while also reducing absenteeism, health problems and mental health challenges that employees may face. Employee wellness programs typically focus on multiple aspects of wellness, including physical, mental, and emotional health.

National Wellness Month gives employers a dedicated opportunity to strengthen employee well-being. The latest data from the Achievers 2026 Engagement and Retention Report gathered from 3,000 employees across eight global regions found that employees who feel appreciated and engaged by their employers are 47x more likely to feel supported in their well-being and 17x more likely to see a long-term career at their current company.

National Wellness Month is an opportunity for organizations to reinforce and improve the workplace, so employees are receiving the physical and emotional support they need to be effective, productive, healthy and happy.

Prioritize your self-care this month and inspire others to do the same by posting on social media with the hashtag #NationalWellnessMonth.
Encourage your employer to participate as well by offering employee wellness challenges focused on areas such as: walking, mindfulness, sleep, nutrition, or meditation. These challenges are a great way to incorporate new wellness habits into your lifestyle and also enjoy the challenge with coworkers.
If you’re running your own challenge, think carefully about what your employees will actually use and enjoy. Consider launching a survey to assess interest in wellness options to achieve the most participation. Best of luck making wellness a priority at your organization!
