THRIVE: Boost Immunity
Friday, May 1 / 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM / VIRTUAL

In the third segment of our THRIVE series, Kirsten Wright-Cirit, holistic health coach and founder of Your Wellness Scout as well as WWCMA’s Education and Events Co-Chair, guided attendees through three lifestyle areas that can impact immunity: diet, sleep and mental health. Adding fiber and reducing inflammatory foods such as sugars and alcohol can have a positive impact on your immune system. Getting a good night’s sleep allows your body to repair and rejuvenate itself as well as scrub your brain so you can awake refreshed. Meditation and physical activity were two items that were brought up as ways that you can combat the negative effects of stress. Making activities such as these a fun part of your day can help to uplift your mood and establish your immune system as your best defense.

THRIVE: Social Connection
Friday, May 8 / 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM / VIRTUAL

In the fourth and final session of our THRIVE series, social connection was discussed. During the time of COVID-19, employers and employees have been facing the challenges associated with remote relationships. Attendees mentioned more phone calls, Zoom calls and use of apps such as House Party and Netflix Party as ways that they have been engaging with their networks.  Kirsten reminded everyone that social connection is known to have many positive benefits for health, such as helping you live longer, boosting your mental health and improving your quality of life.

For the benefit of our entire community, WWMCA is offering access to our THRIVE recordings on our public COVID-19 Resources page.

Mental Health Month

Today, one in five U.S adults experience some form of mental illness and the average time before getting treatment is 11 years. Depression and anxiety disorders, two of the most common mental health issues, cost the global economy more than $1 trillion each year in lost productivity at work. Unfortunately, almost 60% of employees have never spoken to anyone at work about their mental health status because they don’t feel comfortable.

What’s your passion when it comes to wellness?

I love helping people. Wellness is one of the coolest pieces of my job because I can customize or tailor programs that make an impact on employees lives. It also allows me to be creative in ways that other aspects of my role do not allow and delve into so many different focus areas.

What have been the benefits of your Council involvement?

I have had so much fun volunteering! I have made really great connections in the wellness space and have enjoyed putting together content for the organization and its members.
